Associate Professor and docent in Medical Biochemistry
I am researching nucleotide metabolism – enzymes, regulation and drug development.
Nucleotides have central roles in cellular metabolism by being energy donors and building blocks in DNA and RNA. In my research group, we are studying the regulation of some of the enzymes involved in the nucleotide metabolism with the focus on ribonucleotide reductase and nucleoside kinases.
This research includes the study of nucleotide metabolism in several pathogens where we try to exploit differences in nucleotide metabolism compared to mammalian cells in order to selectively kill the pathogens with minimized side effects.
I am teaching in semester 1-3 of the Medical Programme and in the first semester of the Dentistry Programme. I am also responsible for the first semester of the Medical Programme and a member of the programme board (PRL).
