My research group works with graphene related materials both as fundamental research and for energy storage applications. We are partners in EU Graphene Flagship.
Current research interests:
My research started at Ioffe Physico-technical Institute (St.Petersburg Russia) in 1993 after graduation of St.Petersburg State University. I completed my PhD at Uppsala University in 2001 with Prof. Ulf Jansson as supervisor. My early studies were mostly related to fullerenes C60 and C70: polymerization of C60 under high pressure high temperature conditions, solid solvates of C60 and C70, phase transitions between solvate phases. After PhD I worked as research project leader at IMRA Europe in hydrogen storage project (2001-2004). Since 2004 I work at Umeå University, first as postdoc, later as Assistant Professor and as a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor).
Full Professor starting from September 2023.
Over the years my research interests shifted from fullerenes to carbon nanotubes, high teperature hydrogenation of carbon materials and more recently to graphene-related materias: graphene oxides, graphite oxides, multilayered graphene oxide membranes, composite 2D materials. My current research is mostly related to applications of graphene-related materials in supercapacitors and as sorbents for removal of pollutants. I am interested also in fundamental studies of graphene oxide structure and chemical modifications.
We are active users of synchrotron radiation methods in studies of materials properties with experience of work at ESRF, Elettra, PETRA III, SOLEIL, Max lab, APS. In recent years we aslo started using Neutron Scattering at ILL for studie sof graphene oxide films.
We are collaborating with many groups around Europe and participating in EU Graphene Flagship project (2012-2023). First we studied hydrogen strorage in graphene-related materials, currently we work with materials for applications in supercapacitors.
