I am an affiliated researcher in orthopaedics and an associate professor in professional development. My research focuses on medical education and upper extremity conditions.
I am an Associate Professor with a research profile in medical education and orthopaedics, with focus on the upper extremity. My research philosophy is built on a strong belief in the power of collaboration and multidisciplinarity, and I strive to include diverse perspectives and voices in all my projects. Engaging those who ultimately use the research results—students, professionals and patients—is essential to me, and I involve them at every stage, from planning to interpretation. I have built an extensive network of local, national, and international collaborative partners. With a background in both preclinical and clinical research, I am experienced in a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methods.
My ongoing projects in professional development cover several exciting areas. One project focuses on intraoperative decision-making and identifying the factors behind safe surgery, with a particular interest in what characterizes surgeons with the lowest rate of complications. In collaboration with the clinical training center at the medical faculty, I am also investigating experiences of and the effectiveness of peer-led teaching in simulation-based training. Another project examines the implementation of the Foundation Year (BT-programmet) for newly graduated doctors, where I study how this critical transition into clinical practice is experienced. In parallel with this, I conduct clinical studies in orthopaedics. This work includes the development of a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) for elbow function in children, as well as a comprehensive evaluation of long-term outcomes following the treatment of elbow fractures in this patient group.
I teach and supervise students in orthopaedics within the medical program. Umeå university appointed me as a recognised teacher.
