There is an increasing number of old people in the world. It is a challenge for the health care system of today to meet old peoples´ complex needs and with the growing number the challenge will be even larger.
In Sweden several healthcare centers for elderly and geriatric primary care teams have been established and modified to each setting. The purpose is that elderly should be able to continue to live in their own homes with obtained life quality.
Aim
To evaluate the care of frail elderly with declining health by introducing a healthcare center for elderly at Kumla healthcare center.
Study
To explore the needs and experiences of elderly people regarding healthcare centers for elderly.
To evaluate the effect of morbidity and mortality after the set-up of a healthcare center for elderly.
To explore informal carers´ experiences and need of support from healthcare centers for elderly.
Methods
Qualitative content analysis with phenomenological approach. Individual interviews with elderly.
Register study with a descriptive and comparing approach. Total survey of mortality and morbidity within persons aged 75 or older at Kumla community during the period 20141201-181131.
Qualitative content analysis, focus group discussions with informal carers.
There is a lack of scientific evidence of healthcare centers for elderly and the benefit compared to ordinary primary care is unknown.
