Transnational migration in the wild-berry industry – labour market deregulation and new spatial representations
Research project
The project investigates seasonal migration within the Swedish forest berry industry, against the background of an increasingly deregulated labour market and the 2008 law on labour migration.
The first part maps the global production chain of the wild-berry industry. The second part analyses the institutionalisation of the migration system through informant interviews with actors in and around the berry-picking industry. The third part analyses how berry-pickers are represented in news media. The fourth part analyses life-story interviews with Thai berry-pickers in order to understand labour migration at the individual level, and in the sending and receiving communities.
