The use of coercive measures against asylum-seeking children
PhD project
Medical age assessments, detention and the collection of biometric data – all these measures can be directed at children during the asylum process. But what does the regulation look like, what legal function does it fulfill, and is it compatible with children's rights protection? These questions are examined in this PhD project, which also aims to shed light on how asylum-seeking children are treated by the legislator – is it primarily as children or migrants?
While there has been an increased focus on child rights in recent years, there has also been an increased focus on the challenges that migrants may present to society. This is the background setting for this PhD study, that aims to identify and analyze the legal challenges presented by use of coercive measures against asylum seeking children in Sweden.
