The Potential Impact of Media Consumption on Writing: a Study in Upper Secondary Schools
Research project
While working in an upper secondary school I noticed how engaged pupils are with modern media, like feature films, computer gaming and social networks and how these experiences were brought into the classroom. Some of these media experiences seemed to have an effect on the pupils' writing performance.
I worked as an upper secondary school teacher between 2006-2013 in Religious Studies and Swedish. In 2014 I started in my position as a doctoral student with the Department of Language Studies at Umeå University.
With the working title "The Potential Impact of Media Consumption on Writing: a Study in Upper Secondary Schools" I intend to study upper secondary school pupils' media consumption and how that consumption might affect their writing in school. If a certain type of media consumption enhances the pupils' writing abilities, I hope that teachers can endorse that pupil's experience and relate to it in their teaching.
