PhD project
There is a clear trend of declining interest for chemistry among Swedish students. While the chemistry courses at university level in e.g. Germany are more than full, the seats are empty at Swedish universities.
My study is part of a project (DOLIS – Development of Learning in Science) trying to determine what it is in the Swedish schools that underlies this problem. The project's aim is therefore to investigate how students’ cognitive and motivational characteristics change over the school years 5-11 in Sweden and Germany, and if/how these changes are related to school systems or classroom features in the respective countries.
