Sustainable Development through Three Arenas in the School Subject of Crafts/sloyd
PhD project
The present study aims to contribute new knowledge to the field of craft education research on how craft teachers interpret and understand sustainable development and how this understanding is enacted in their educational practice in the school subject of sloyd (crafts).
Since 2011, according to the Swedish national curriculum for primary schools, sloyd (craft) teachers are required to teach for sustainable development. This project aims to contribute to understanding how sustainable development is expressed through various arenas, both historical and contemporary, and how it is interpreted by craft teachers and influences their sloyd (craft) education in Swedish primary schools.
