Investigating INPH and the impact of small and large vessel disease, biomarkers and genetics
PhD project
The general aim of this PhD project is to study the impact of cardio-vascular disease, small vessel disease and genetic determinants in INPH with focus on surgery outcome and mortality.
Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is a disease that affect the elderly population. It is often misdiagnosed and carry many similarities with small vessel disease (SVD) and other neurodegenerative conditions. The cause is unknown, but is most likely multifactorial and includes cardio- and cerebrovascular disease, SVD and its risk factors, and disturbances of the cerebrospinal fluid hydrodynamics. Further understanding of the underlying pathogenesis using radiological, genetic and vascular biomarkers may have important implications for improving treatment and quality of life.
