Research project The overarching purpose of the interdisciplinary project ROUTE TO PARIS, is to explore and develop the forests’ climate change mitigation potential. More specifically, the aim is to join sustainable forest land-use to the overall route towards a carbon-neutral society as envisioned in the Paris climate agreement.
While learning from previous transitions, we will analyze carbon flows in the society based on different forest (policy) scenarios, the consumption of different wood products, and engage in conversations with stakeholders to provide a knowledge base for how to overcome current barriers in forest policy, that may prevent a transition to sustainable forestry practices coupled with carbon goals. Furthermore, we will in close collaboration with actors identify and develop innovative concepts aimed to empower and incentivize forest owners across Sweden to apply climate-smart forestry practices.
