Research project
In this project, a validated CFD model is constructed with enough predictive
capacity to efficiently support necessary decision making for full scale implementation
of O2 and H2 enriched combustion conditions in quicklime production.
The aim of the project is to construct a validated CFD model with enough predictive capacity to efficiently support necessary decision making for full scale implementation of O2 and H2 enriched combustion conditions in quicklime production.
The extensive process modifications targeted will enable reduced carbon dioxide emissions and increased resource efficiency in lime kilns, in this project primarily by flame stabilization and improved fuel flexibility but enrichment can also target oxy-fuel combustion increasing energy efficiency and concentrating CO2 gas assisting future carbon capture technologies. It can also be extended to using green hydrogen as fuel. The validated simulation tool will be used to make predictions of full scale operation using O2/H2 enriched combustion gas; investments and implementation will be planned based on the results from the present project. The project is deemed to have high potential for transition to emission reduction technologies for lime burning.
