Measurements of trace-gasses and retrieval of temperature and ozone profiles over the Arctic
PhD project
A project focused on studying ozone depletion, atmospheric dynamic processes and signs of climate change within the Arctic Circle using measurements from the microwave radiometer KIMRA at the Institute of Space Physics in Kiruna.
The project is 50% funded by the Arctic Centre and is one of six funded in spring 2023. The workplace is at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics in Kiruna. The task is to measure ozone and oxygen, affected by Zeeman splitting, in the atmosphere using the microwave radiometer KIMRA. Data is processed in the Python library pyarts to create altitude-dependent profiles of ozone and temperature using an optimal estimation solver. These profiles help analyze winter ozone depletion, study dynamic processes, and track signs of climate change.
