Democracy is something that is often taken for granted in Sweden. But that hasn't always been the case. In 2018, it was 100 years since Sweden introduced equal rights to vote in municipal elections, and this can be seen as the decisive step in providing Sweden with a democratic form of government.

Democracy, however, is not taken for granted in other parts of the world. Great parts of the global population live in countries without democratic elections and where public participation isn't high up on the agenda. So how about the future? Is democracy under threat?
