Plant Growth Facilities at Umeå Plant Science Centre
Research infrastructure
Umeå Plant Science Center (UPSC) has a number of different growth rooms, growth cabinets and climate chambers that enable the cultivation of transgenic, flowering and non-flowering plants in controlled environments.

UPSC's Plant Growth Facility consists of various sections, such as growth rooms, climate chambers and growth cabinets, which allow the control of e.g. light intensity, humidity, temperature and to a certain extent also carbon dioxide content to grow plants in a controlled manner. Additionally, there are laboratories and spaces for special experiments, for storing seeds, pots and soil, as well as for planting and more.
The facility has been authorized by the Swedish Board of Agriculture to grow genetically modified organisms (GMOs). It is specially adapted to prevent the release of genetically modified material. Two plant species that are frequently grown in the facility are Arabidopsis and aspen, but permits from the Swedish Board of Agriculture also cover other plant species. Access to the facility is granted only after an introduction that includes information on work rules and safety regulations.
