We study various aspects of solar-terrestrial interactions, i.e., interactions between the solar plasma wind and Earth's magnetosphere. The research covers everything from fundamental studies on processes in Earth's magnetotail (e.g., plasma transport and energy conversions) and around Earth's bow shock (e.g., magnetosheath jets and the bow shock current systems) to more applied space weather research on the complex behaviour of the ionospheric current systems, and how these can cause magnetic field variations at the ground as well as geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) that can harm human infrastructure.
