Sociology of education is a branch of sociology that studies the role of education in society, including how the education system functions and how it both influences and is influenced by social structures and processes.
This includes examining how education reproduces or transforms social inequalities, how social factors such as class, gender, ethnicity, and culture affect educational opportunities and outcomes, and how educational institutions and policies shape and are shaped by societal norms, values, and power relations.
Sociology of education are interested in questions such as:
How does socioeconomic status affect an individual's educational opportunities and achievements?
In what ways does the education system reinforce or challenge existing social hierarchies?
How does education contribute to socialization and the transmission of cultural norms?
What role does schooling play in the development of individual identities?
In short, Sociology of education analyzes the interaction between education and society from a critical and systematic perspective.
