The struggle for place: Linguistic landscapes in contested environments
The aim of this symposium is to bring together young researchers in the Humanities interested in interdisciplinary perspectives on place and multilingualism.
The focus is on place-making processes in geographical areas where diversity and multilingualism is a fact but where there are also political and ideological tensions around issues of diversity and multilingualism. Although multilingualism is part of everyday life for many, there are often societal expectations to use one language at a time, according to a monolingual norm.
