Nominate your vice-chancellor candidates

Vice-Chancellor Hans Adolfsson’s current term of office ends on 30 June 2025, and he has announced that he will not be available for re-election for another period. As a result, the recruitment of a new vice-chancellor has been initiated.

Umeå University students, staff, teachers, researchers and alumni are welcome to nominate candidates for the post as new vice-chancellor. You can propose anyone you see fit, as long as they fulfil the eligibility requirements. Nominees do not need to be consulted – even if it is beneficial.

Take this opportunity to voice your opinions. Propose a candidate as new vice-chancellor of Umeå University!

Final day to submit nominations is 7 May 2024.

Responsibilities through the recruitment process

University Board

Decides on the process, the required qualifications and about which candidate to submit as final proposal to the Swedish government.

Recruitment Committee

Makes sure the planned recruitment process is followed and consults teachers, other staff and students through the Consultative Assembly. The Committee also submits a proposal for a vice-chancellor candidate to the University Board.

The Recruitment Committee consists of:

Görel Granström, Docent
William Nordberg, student, Umeå Student Union of Science and Technology
Peter Lindström, Associate Professor, representative of the trade unions

Consultative Assembly

Has an advisory function and gives comments on the proposed vice-chancellor candidates. The Consultative Assembly consists of 45 teachers, 22 students, 22 other staff members, and trade union representatives. Chair of the Consultative Assembly is Professor Richard Bindler.

The Swedish government

Reaches the final and formal decision on the appointment of a new vice-chancellor of Umeå University.
