Umeå University is the subject of a major cyberattack

NEWS On May 2, ITS detected an ongoing cyberattack against the University. Extra protective measures have been taken resulting in some disruption to systems and digital tools used by university staff and students.

Extensive work is underway to stop the cyber-attack, carry out troubleshooting and other measures together with external specialists. This work involves extra protective measures and means that you may be affected in the following ways:

- If you work from home or remotely, you will need to use a VPN.
- There are shutdowns of parts of the universities' various systems, so disruptions may occur.

This works as usual
- Emails you send inside and outside the university
- The Microsoft 365 digital collaboration platform.

The ongoing cyber-attack was detected at 08:30 on 2 May during an analysis of logs. A deeper investigation shows that the attack is serious.
