Umeå School of Architecture sets up new Master’s programme
NEWS
A new two-year Master of Arts Programme in Architecture is starting at the Umeå School of Architecture replacing two existing Master’s programmes. The new name is the Master's Programme in Architecture and Urban Design.
In order to strengthen the perception of the architectural programme as a coherent five-year programme, Umeå School of Architecture now adapts its education at Master’s level to fully comply with the architectural programme.
The two existing Master's programmes in Architecture: the Master's Programme in Immediate Architectural Intervention and the Master's Programme in Sustainable Architectural Production have been relatively specialised and attracted rather few students.
The new Master's programme includes parts of earlier themes and theory, but will have a broader approach to offer a greater diversity of subject areas to attract more students from both the architectural programmes as well as new students from the outside.
“The changes are made to promote diversity, flexibility, a larger and broader range of fields of knowledge, international collaboration, and other teaching models of studio teaching. The vision behind our work is that all activities carried out by the school should be a platform for subject development and deepened knowledge of artistic, professional and research practice,” says Ana Betancour, Rector of Umeå School of Architecture.
All education is carried out in English and the English name of the programme is the Master's Programme in Architecture and Urban Design.
What happens to the existing Master's programmes?
“The Master of Arts Programme in Architecture will, for the time being, replace the two existing Master's programmes in Architecture. Although, students who have started one of the earlier Master’s programmes will of course be able to complete it,” says Ana Betancour.
