Arcum has a substantial number of affiliated researchers and assembles a strong cross-disciplinary research environment, with national proficiency in several areas. Now, two of our affiliates have been selected to participate in a scientific reference group for vaccines against covid-19.

Sven Bergström is a professor at the Department of Molecular Biology. Amongst other things, he researches Northern infectious disease and parasitic diseases, which are spread through mosquitos and ticks.
Sven Arne Silfverdal is associate professor, senior consultant (attending) physician at Department of Clinical Sciences Unit for Professional Development, Pediatrics. He works foremostly with children’s health and diseases. In an Arctic context he has amongst other things written about D-vitamin deficiency in people living in northern areas.

Both gentlemen will, together with two other researchers from Umeå University, be part of a scientific reference group appointed by the government's special investigator of vaccines against covid-19. The purpose of the reference group is to offer a deeper knowledge of vaccines, how they work, and research and testing, with a focus on efficacy and safety.
