Three new articles published

NEWS RiseB has in 2017 already produced 3 new articles, published with leading sustainability outlets: Journal of Cleaner Production, Sustainable Development and Business Strategy and the Environment. The first two are ranked as number two on the Norwegian list.

Corvellec and Stål’s Evidencing the waste effect of Product-Service Systems (PSSs) (Journal of Cleaner Production) analyses bundles of products and services (PSSs) within Nordic fashion using Tukker’s tripartite categorization and the European waste hierarchy. The authors find that it is not which category a PSS belongs to that decides the waste effect, but rather the chosen business model and how that relates to pre-existing waste infrastructure. This is surprising given the weight the PSS-literature attaches to Tukker’s categorizations for deciding environmental impact.

Stål and Jansson’s Sustainable Consumption and Value Propositions: Exploring Product-Service System Practices among Swedish Fashion Firms looks at sustainable consumption from the perspective of how firms try to construct it through their value propositions. The authors find that Swedish fashion firms include purchase decisions, use and disposal in their definition, which is surprising given that sustainable consumption-research has mostly tried to analyze consumers’ purchase.

Janssons et al., Commitment to Sustainability in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: The Influence of Strategic Orientations and Management Values explores, through a survey, small and medium-sized businesses’ sustainability engagement and relate this to two common firm strategies. The study is interesting because previous research has mostly looked at larger firms’ sustainability strategies.
