For the fourth year in a row, the WHO Health for All Film Festival (HAFF) has been looking for innovative film and video makers to highlight important health challenges. OACCUs (Outdoor Against Cancer Connects us) is a project that aims to build a sustainable network for young EU cancer survivors. A short film titled "CHOOSE the HEALTHy way" produced by the project follows four Europeans from Greece, Portugal and Spain who have survived cancer at a young age. Their personal stories are powerful and the short film is now nominated by the WHO for the "Special Prize: Very short film" category.

OACCUs hope that the short film and the nomination for the "Special Prize: Very short film" category will raise awareness of the needs of young cancer survivors and encourage other people to live healthier lives. The project's four pillars - physical activity and outdoor sports, balanced diet, sustainability and nature, and physical and mental health - play an important role in preventing cancer, reducing side effects during treatment and reducing the risk of cancer recurrences.

In the coming weeks, the jury, made up of WHO's leading experts and prominent supporters such as Sharon Stone, will nominate winners to the WHO Director-General, who is responsible for the final selection of winners. The winners will be announced during the HAFF virtual awards ceremony in early June 2023.

Concept, idea and production of the short film: Petra Thaller, founder and president of Outdoor Against Cancer.

Directing, camera and editing: Bojan Hadžiabdić and Zoran Kubura from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A brief summary of OACCUs

The aim of the OACCUs project is to sustainably develop an EU-wide network for young cancer survivors. The consortium is lead by Umeå University and is comprised of a total of 14 partners from 6 European members states. The establishment of the OACCUs network will be accomplished by encouraging an increased quality of life through a healthy lifestyle. This will be done through various channels, connecting the target group on a European level and ensuring that young Europeans once diagnosed with cancer will be able to continue living mentally and physically healthy and future-oriented lives.
