Join Umeå University in the Pride parade!

NEWS This year’s Pride Parade will take place in Umeå on Saturday, 28 September as part of the UmePride event. This year, Umeå University is taking part as an official participant in the parade for the first time. All staff and students are welcome to join us!

“Umeå University works to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all and against all forms of discrimination. The Student Health Service at Umeå University is also an LGBTQI-certified organisation, according to the guidelines of the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Rights (RFSL). This is important every day, but on this particular day, the University wants to make an extra effort to show it,” says Lars Nordlander, Human Resources Director.

As the organisers need to know how many people will be participating in the parade, we ask that you register in advance using the relevant form: here (for employees) or here (for students). You must register by 27 September at the latest.

Timetable for the day (Saturday, 28 September)

11:30 Meet in Döbeln Park (exact location to be announced)

12:00 Depart for the parade

13:00 (approximately) Return to Döbeln Park

The opening speaker will be County Governor Helene Hellmark Knutsson. Entertainment will follow in the park, and several exhibitors will be held on site.

Come as you are! Umeå University will have a number of rainbow flags for participants to borrow, as well as a banner reading ‘UMU för allas lika värde’ (UMU stands for equal rights for all).

This is expected to be a record-breaking year for the Umeå parade. Take the opportunity to join in and stand up for equal rights for all and participate in a fun and exciting event at the same time!
