NEWS The Faculty of Science and Technology has appointed two honorary doctors for 2011: Professor Bingbing Liu, China, and Professor Mary Power, USA.
Professor Mary Power, Berkeley University of California, is an ecologist and her area of research concerns trophic dynamics, i.e. food webs in rivers and their watersheds. She has published a great number of articles with strong impact among researchers in ecology and is represented on the international listing "Highly Cited Scientists". Mary Powell´s cooperation with the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science started more than 25 years ago and she was also working as a guest professor here in the year 2010.
Professor Bingbing Liu is assistant head of the department at the State Kay Laboratory of Superhard Materials in Changchun, China. High pressure nano technology is her field of research as a physicist. She has been rewarded several prizes and grants for her work. Bingbing Liu spent the years 1999-2001 in Umeå as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Physics, and since then her cooperation with researchers at Umeå university has continued.
