NEWS
On September 30, 2016, Margit Schratzenstaller and Danuše Nerudová presented FairTax research on options for tax-based EU own resources to the inter-institutional High Level Group on Own Resources (HLGOR) chaired by ex-EU commissioner Mario Monti.

Potential tax-based own resources which may strengthen sustainability-orientation of the EU system of own resources and contribute to closing existing sustainability gaps in European tax regimes are a carbon-based flight ticket tax, a financial transactions tax, or the C(C)CTB.
The HLGOR includes representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the European Council and was established in February 2014 to reflect on finding more transparent, simple, fair and democratically accountable ways to finance the EU budget. The Group will deliver its final recommendations by the end of 2016, and the European Commission will then assess whether new legislative initiatives to amend the EU system of own resources are appropriate.
