Creative ideas shine bright at Innovation Boot Camp

This year, the boot camp welcomed over 40 creative minds to a weekend filled with excitement and inspiration. Among them, three outstanding winners emerged in different categories, highlighting the unique perspectives of the participants

Innovation Boot Camp is a multi-day event that challenges participants to unleash their creativity and develop innovative business ideas. It provides a collaborative environment where participants can gain insights from experienced business coaches and network with representatives from Umeå's innovation support system, all aimed at helping them bring their concepts to life.
Thoughts from participants and organisers
– We liked the environment, the pep talks and that we got to meet new friends with similar goals. The coaches also provided us with great feedback that allowed us to focus on creating solutions, said team members Danjela Vladi and Abel Kebede.
– The best thing was to meet other people who shared an interest in coming up with new ideas. I also loved the atmosphere and the opportunity to shape ideas based on discussions with other participants and the coaches, said Filip Lapveteläinen.

– After 24 hours, 21 unique and innovative ideas were submitted. I'm genuinely impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of our participants. They played a key role in shaping an innovative and exciting event, expressed event manager Evelinn Carlsson.
Winners of Innovation Boot Camp 2023
Most Feasible Idea: The award went to Simulation of fire in mixed reality created by Filip Lapveteläinen. This innovative concept emerged as the most feasible idea, providing a simulation of fire incidents in mixed reality. Its potential applications are promising, contributing to enhanced safety.
Most Sustainable Idea: Recognising ideas that prioritise environmental well-being and resource conservation, the award went to Lyckan created by Suze van der Zwet and Nicole Hyslop. The idea addresses the need for green spaces at SLU Umeå to enhance mental health, sustainability and the overall work environment for students and employees.
Most Creative Idea:Expandable storage augmentation for drilling machines by Danjela Vladi and Abel Kebede introduced an innovative approach for underground storage using drilling machines, aiming to enhance water extraction and potentially address environmental impact concerns.

Taking the next step
Looking ahead, the participants shared their visions for their innovation projects and themselves, anticipating a promising future. Suze van der Zwet and Nicole Hyslop share their thoughts on where they see themselves and their innovation project going from here.

The event was organised by the Innovation Office at Umeå University in collaboration with multiple partners from Umeå's innovation support system, including A Working Lab, Uminova Innovation, SLU Holding, Ung företagsamhet, Venture Cup, eXpression Umeå, Coompanion, Drivhuset, Region Västerbotten, and Almi. Committed to supporting innovators, these organizers endorse the event, aiming to inspire innovation and implementation of creative concepts.
