Christina West, Professor of Pediatrics, is awarded the Margareta and Eric Modig Prize to a well-qualified researcher within the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University, preferably in the field of the eye, heart or lung. The prize money this year is SEK 150,000.
Award motivation: "Christina West is a worthy recipient of the 2024 award. She is a relatively new professor who has been exceptionally successful in several areas: research, obtaining research grants, teaching and clinical work. Her research has been groundbreaking and has great relevance for the understanding and development of the mechanisms behind allergy in children and the onset of asthma. Christina West's work has not only contributed to scientific knowledge, but has also had practical applications that improve child health and prevent disease. Her efforts and commitment in these areas make her a very worthy laureate."

The prize will be awarded at Umeå University's annual ceremony on 19 October.
The Skyttean Society was founded in 1957 and is one of the 18 royal academies in Sweden. Its task is to support and draw attention to Norrland's cultural and scientific development. The Society annually awards a cultural prize as well as a number of prizes and scholarships to support and draw attention to young researchers at universities and colleges in northern Sweden.
