NEWS
The University Board of Directors at Umeå University has decided to present their Vice-Chancellor candidate to the Hearing Assembly; Hans Adolfsson, professor of organometallic chemistry and currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Stockholm University.
“It is extremely gratifying for the Hearing Assembly to now suggest Hans Adolfsson as a candidate in the running for Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University. He more than well fulfils the established requirements, his merits as a researcher are advanced and he has shown proficient leadership skills, not least in his position as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Stockholm University. This makes him well suited to take on the task to manage and develop Umeå University further,” says Lennart Evrell, chair of the University Board of Directors.
The next step in the recruitment process is for the Hearing Assembly to meet the candidate Hans Adolfsson on Monday 21 December. The University Hearing Assembly consists of representatives of Umeå University’s teachers, students and other members of staff.
When the Hearing Committee has made their assessment, the University Board will, in January 2016, reach a conclusion about the proposed new Vice-Chancellor. The Government then makes the formal decision on the proposal from the University Board. A new University Vice-Chancellor is normally appointed for a period of six years with the opportunity of a three-year reappointment.
The work of the Recruitment Committee is based on the requirements for the position of Vice-Chancellor at Umeå University established by the University Board at their meeting on 4 June 2015. After having taken into account all nominated candidates from university staff members, faculty boards, external applications and suggested candidates from the purchased recruitment agency, the Committee and University Board decided unanimously to present Professor Hans Adolfsson to the Hearing Assembly.
The new Vice-Chancellor will take up office on 1 July 2016 when the current Vice-Chancellor Lena Gustafsson ends her appointment.
