Welcome to a press preview on Thursday 3 May, at 10:00-12:00. The graduates will present their works together with their main tutor Christoph Draeger, artist and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts.
The artists will of course also be present at the opening evening on Friday 4 May 17:00-21:00. Inauguration talk by Katrin Holmqvist-Sten, head of the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, at 19:00. Christoph Draeger presents the exhibition.
This year's exhibition by graduate students from the master's programme at the Academy of Fine Arts at Umeå University is entitled C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me). The title refers to a critical questioning of societal values and the possibilities to challenge their definition through artistic expression.
The exhibition presents works by Carolina Andreasson (b. 1991, Stockholm, Sweden), Emil Carlsiö (b. 1988, Gothenburg, Sweden), Micaela Cignozzi (b. 1982, Stockholm, Sweden), Laura Heuberger (b. 1993, Pisa, Italy), Jenny Käll (b. 1988, Kungsör, Sweden), Ariadna Mangrané (b. 1986, Amposta, Spain), Frederico Sjöstrand de Oliveira (b. 1991, Lisbon, Portugal) and Alexander Skats (b. 1986, Gothenburg, Sweden). Their main supervisor is artist Christoph Draeger, Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts.
C.R.E.A.M. is the culmination of five years of study in Fine Arts and displays a wide range of ideas. Based on their specific interests and personalities, the students have developed independent ways of working.
The master’s programme at Umeå Academy of Fine Arts is an international program that prepares students for professional art practice. Challenged to devise methods of experimentation and a significant understanding of historical and contemporary context, students develop an informed artistic practice, specific to their intentions and sensibilities. The students are working within and across the areas of various media and topics in a curriculum that is designed to promote the depth of individualistic artistic expression, as well as collaborative interdisciplinary thinking.
C.R.E.A.M. runs 4-20 May 2018. A series of events in conjunction with the exhibition can be found here.
As the works are being finalized, press images will be found here.
