Book an online idea meeting with an innovations advisor
NEWS
At the end of October, the Innovation Office at Umeå University launches an opportunity for students and staff to book online idea meetings. The initiative aims to simplify for anyone interested in taking an idea or research finding further into an innovation or other forms of utilisation of research in society.

“Opening up for online meetings is a step towards becoming more accessible to everyone at the university. We have also just moved into new premises in the middle of Campus Umeå. I look forward to welcoming new people and hearing their ideas for how knowledge produced at the university in various ways can contribute to benefits in society,” says Daniel Hoffman, innovations and business advisor at the Innovation Office.
How is an idea meeting set up?
You book a 30-minute slot that suits you through the Innovation Office’s booking system. The meeting takes place online through Teams where you get to meet an advisor specialised in idea development.
“The idea meeting is an opportunity to present your idea and get advice on what opportunities are available to take it to the next level – no strings attached. You do not need to prepare anything prior to the meeting and the support is free of charge, of course. During this first meeting, we’re interested in hearing your thoughts and we can also present what support the Innovation Office can offer you,” says Daniel Hoffman.
Beside the idea meeting concept, you can also contact the innovations and business advisors if you have questions or wish to learn more about what support students and staff can receive. Meetings can be held in English or in Swedish.
What support can the Innovation Office provide?
The Innovation Office supports university researchers, other staff and students and can be the first step towards developing an idea. The Innovation Office is home to experts in idea development who can guide you in useful tools and methods and provide advice in, for instance, funding options or legal protection of new ideas.
“I’d like to encourage anyone with an idea to contact us – the sooner the better. We know from experience that analysing the needs, customer interest and solution requirements are important keys in reaching success,” says Daniel Hoffman.
Daniel Hoffman is one of the innovations and business advisors at the Innovation Office whom employees and students can meet at the online idea meetings.
