Awarded for research on Sámi health

NEWS Jon Petter Stoor, Department of Epidemiology and Global Health, has been awarded a prize and funding from the Uppsala University Umeå Foundation in 2024. The prize money is SEK 176,674.

Justification:
Jon Petter Stoor is awarded the prize for his outstanding research on Sami health, mental health and suicide prevention. Through partnerships with the Sámi population, Stoor has, among other things, identified key factors for Sámi health such as cultural continuity, language and historical trauma. His studies have not only contributed to academic research but also influenced policies and ethics in Sámi health. By uniting cultural history with modern health challenges, his work is thus important contributions to research on Upper Norrland's culture and history.

The prize will be awarded in conjunction with the lecture on the morning of Saturday 19 October, the same day as the Annual Ceremony.
