- Going on exchange studies not only gives you experiences in a new culture, but is also a way to sharpen your CV. Through exchange studies, you can both broaden and deepen your education and is a merit for your future career, says Ida Bergmark, International Coordinator at the International Office.
Many students at Umeå University take the chance to go on exchange. One of these is Fay Gkivizini who studied for a semester at the City University of Hong Kong.
- My exchange was one of the best semesters of my life! I learned so much. In addition to my studies, I learned about Asian history and culture, how to survive a typhoon and what it's like to live with a different lifestyle compared to calm Umeå. I also realized that I missed some things from Sweden, and started to appreciate them more. I would do it over a thousand times if I could!, says Fay. I also realized during the exchange how easy it was to adapt to the new environment, something that stressed me before I left Europe.
Another student who took the chance to go on exchange is Emelie Fahlman who studied at Chung-Ang University in South Korea. Emelie believes that you grow so incredibly much as a person from an exchange semester.

- I have realized what my life values are, what type of person I want to be and what types of people I want to surround myself with. For me, it was necessary to leave Sweden and meet people with other backgrounds and outlooks in order to gain new perspectives and develop my own outlook on life, says Emelie.
I really think you should take the chance to apply for an exchange, says Ida Bergmark at the International Office. You won't regret it!
