Action researchers from six continents to meet in Umeå
NEWS
During 9-11 November, 130 action researchers from all over the globe will convene at Umeå University for an International Conference with the chosen theme "Action Research Beyond Borders and Divides."
Action research is a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals collaborating with others to improve the way they solve problems and address issues. On Friday 9 November action researchers from many nations will gather in Umeå to discuss research perspectives and practical concerns.
One of the keynote speakers attending the conference is Professor Ken Zeicher from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. He will lecture on the roll of action research within teacher education from an international perspective, and also discuss how the education in USA has changed under the current “No Child Left Behind” government policy.
Professor Jane Springett from John Moores University in Liverpool, England, will point out the possibilities of creating new participatory forms through action research within a generally “divided” healthcare and social welfare sector.
The third keynote speaker, Professor Gaby Weiner, along with two colleagues from Umeå University, will analyse the experience of doing action research from doctoral studies perspective.
In addition to the keynote lectures there will be a total of 10 symposiums and 17 seminars with presenters from, for example, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, USA, Canada and several European nations.
The conference is arranged by the Department of Education and the Department of Teacher Education in Swedish and Social Studies in collaboration The Collaborative Action Research Network (CARN), an international organisation based at Manchester Metropolitan University, England.
The conference programme is available at: www.umea-congress.se/carn.htm The media is welcome to attend the conference.
