28 MSEK for new research programme at Umeå University

NEWS The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation has funded a new research programme focused on digital innovation at the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation (SCDI) at Umeå University. The programme is managed by Jonny Holmström, professor at the department of Informatics. The research programme aims at combining scientific excellence with positive societal effects.

– Generous grants like these provides us with an opportunity to conduct long-term research with an international edge. This programme builds on and extends the research on digital innovation conducted by SCDI, so this is very welcome! says vice-chancellor Hans Adolfsson. 

The new research programme – the Wallenberg program in digital innovation – builds on research conducted in close collaboration with industry and the public sector. The program is placed at the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation (SCDI) which is a collaboration between Umeå University, Gothenburg University, Stockholm School of Economics, and RISE Digital Innovation.

The programme consists of two-year post doc positions along with research conferences and symposia with industry and the public sector.

– This new programme provides us with an opportunity develop our research and collaboration in digital innovation and digital transformation, and to maintain our position as a leading research actor in Europe. At the same time, it is a key for Swedish industry and public sector to be successful in digital transformation. SCDI’s research excellence – along with RISE Digital Innovation and their competence in applied research – is an importance resource for Swedish industry and public sector in their renewal efforts, says Jonny Holmström.

Swedish Center for Digital Innovation (SCDI) is a center focused on digital innovation and digital transformation. SCDI was established in 2016 at Umeå University with Gothenburg University and Stockholm School of Economics as partner universities. The center hosts 50 scholars conducting research on digital innovation and digital transformation grounded in the information systems discipline.
