Umeå University researchers can publish open access at no cost in the Royal Society of Chemistry journals. Read more about the terms of our agreement with the publisher for 2025 and what it means for you here.
The open access publishing fee (APC, article processing charge) has been pre-paid through an agreement between the library and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). This applies to open access publishing in both hybrid and open access journals of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Terms and conditions
You must be the corresponding author, i.e., the one handling communication with the publisher and journal.
Your Umeå University affiliation must be stated in the published article.
You must use your university email ending with @umu.se in order to be identified as an Umeå University affiliated author.
The agreement applies to articles accepted by the publisher in 2025 (“acceptance date” during 2025).
Your article will be published under a CC BY or CC BY-NC license.
The agreement does not cover additional charges, such as page charges or charges for colour illustrations.
How the publishing process works
Once your article has been accepted for publication, you will receive a message from the publisher with a link to the RCS publishing agreement portal, clearly stating that the cost of open access publication is covered by the agreement. You must select the option “select an open access licence” for the article to be published open access. Select CC BY or CC BY-NC licence.
