We support researchers and students who need archive materials for their research.
Our reference desk can assist with accessing our collections as well as obtaining materials from other archival institutions. The library also work with digitisation of literature, manuscripts and personal archives. You can visit us at floor 3 in the University Library.
The collection of manuscripts of the library represents manuscripts from researchers, authors, ministers and other leading personalities with connections to Northern Sweden.
Microfiche are archive materials which have been scaled down and saved as photographic film. A selection of records from other archives are available on microfiche. These are mainly documents from parish-, tax- and court records. This includes approximately 240 000 microfiche (only in Swedish).
Project archives
The project archives contains documents från completed projects at Umeå University. The library want's to preserve the documents for the future and make them available for research (only in Swedish).
Publications
The library publishes the series, Post Scriptum which present current research that has relevance to our holdings. During the years 1987-2018 the library published other series (Scriptum and Urkunden). All our publications are published in Swedish.
Transcript archives
The transcript archive contains transcriptions from other archives in Sweden (only in Swedish).
Services
We provide documents, registers and research databases. We administer the loans of records from other archives and are responsible for the manuscript collection of the University.
We can scan and digitally reproduce both original materials in all size formats as well as those in microform. Researchers can also scan their own microfiche materials with our microfiche copier and access them at home.
We also arrange tours and short courses for students and research groups.
