The focus area of digital practices refers to research related to what people do with and through digital technologies, and how people relate to technology.
Research within this focus area includes for instance studies about how digital media is used in the social and cultural contexts of different minorities, about computer games and gaming cultures, about digital cultural heritage, or about how religion is expressed online and how it affects religious beliefs and practices. It can also be studies about visual cultures and communities on social media e.g influencers, sharenting, selfies, memes etc.
Methodologically, digital practices are often studied qualitatively, through e.g. digital ethnography, autoethnography, but also quantitative methods and mixed-methods may be suitable for answering certain research questions. Internet research ethics are central to research on digital practices.
