AI Literacy

Umeå University has assumed a leading role in the rapidly evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI), primarily in research but also in education.

AI impacts many aspects of our lives. Its reach extends across all sectors of society, from healthcare to industry, finance, and commerce. Higher education is no exception. In higher education, public debate often centers heavily on students using AI to gain unfair advantages. However, our work at Umeå University is not just about examinations.

The faculty leadership has instructed Humlab to develop and conduct several practical workshops during 2024 to enhance AI literacy within the Humanities Faculty. The intention is to increase awareness and elevate proficiency regarding generative AI within our faculty. This is to leverage AI's potential for learning, administrative processes, and research, preparing for a future increasingly influenced by AI technology.

We aim to foster a balanced, constructive, and insightful perspective on AI's role within our daily work. By embracing AI's challenges and opportunities early on, we at the Humanities Faculty can be pioneers in education, research, and administration enhanced by AI. We become insightful users and ethical thinkers, able to navigate the complexities of our AI reality now and in the future.

The course content includes: bias, integrity, digital divides, transparency, fundamental understanding of AI ecosystems, methods for 'prompting', data protection laws, various chatbots, and more.

This workshop has at least 10 places reserved for the Faculty of Humanities but is open to everyone at Umeå University. There are 9 workshops during the autumn term of 2024 with the following focuses: research, teaching, or administration. The format for each workshop is 50% lecture/discussion and 50% hands-on, so bring your computer and phone.

We use a simple booking system, so please note the day/time in your calendar. You will receive a welcome email about a week before the workshop.
