As a friend or a family member to a graduating student, you can take part in the ceremony and celebration, either via attending the physical event or watch the ceremony live online.

Guest sign up to attend in person

Guests, staff and non-graduating students at Umeå University who wish to attend the ceremony in person are required to to sign up below by 2 April at the latest. Graduating students have received a link to the guest sign-up form.

Note that this sign-up is NOT for graduating students. Graduating students must register themselves by completing a different sign-up form sent in mid-March.

For any guests that have registered to attend and cannot attend the ceremony for any reason, you do not have to contact us.

Frequently asked questions for guests

I didn't get a confirmation when I signed up!

When completing the form, you should have seen a message that we have received your registration to attend. You will not get an email confirmation but you don't need to be concerned.

Can I bring children to the ceremony?

Yes, children are of course welcome to attend the ceremony. We recommend that you choose seating close to an exit or front row, in case you need to exit the ceremony.

Is there a maximum number of guests that can atttend?

No, but there is limited seating for guests in Aula Nordica, so we high recommend to avoid attending in large groups. The ceremony will be live streamed at live.umu.se.

Is there a dresscode for the ceremony?

The Graduation Ceremony is a festive occasion but there is no formal dress code for guests. We recommend that you dress smart casual.

When do I have to arrive to the ceremony?

Please be seated in Aula Nordica by 14:30 at the very latest, since there can be queues. 

Guests can find seats in the rows in the 2nd section (towards the rear) and in the upper section (balcony). Graduating students will be seated in the three sections closest to the stage.

Will I be able to sit with the student I am celebrating?

No. All students have assigned seats and sit together with their classmates during the ceremony.

Do I have an assigned seat?

No. Guests don't have assigned seats. You can choose where you want to sit freely from the the guest seats. The students are seated together with their classmates.

I can't come to the ceremony. Do I need to inform you?

If you have signed up to come as a guest and aren't able to come, you do not need to send an email to us. Another family member of friend can take your place.

How do I find Aula Nordica?

Enter Aula Nordica to the right of Universum and E-puben. Directions/maps to/at Campus Umeå can be found here: Aula Nordica at Umeå University

Where do I find parking near Aula Nordica?

We encourage all guests to take public transportation (local buses) if possible. The Universum bus stop is right near the entrance to Aula Nordica. Bus lines # 2, 5 and 8 stop at Universum.

There are parking areas around the university campus and also by Landstingshuset near the University Hospital. You will need the Parkster app to pay with your mobile phone. It is your responsibility to make certain that you are parked in a valid spot.

Tip: Car park P8 by Landstingshuset often has vacant places. This car park is located to the east of the hospital, adjacent to Regionens hus and near the southern entrance.  It is about a 5 minute walk to Aula Noridca.

Can I watch the ceremony anywhere after the event?

Yes. A live stream of the Graduation Ceremony will be available on live.umu.se for two weeks following the ceremony.
