The Gender-Equality Paradox is the finding that various psychological traits, preferences, and social behaviors—not least connected with the gender gap in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics-related occupations—are larger in countries that score higher on various measures of gender equality. While empirical evidence of this cross-cultural variation can be found in abundance, there are ongoing debates concerning the nature of causality, measurement, and wider theoretical implications.
This webinar is intended to provide a broad overview of current research and theory development, and to foster dialogue between different disciplines and perspectives. It will cover the Gender-Equality Paradox in a broad sense, with several short presentations from scholars who engage with different aspects related to the topic (see below).
The event is organized by the Department of Sociology, Umeå University, together with the Center for Comparative Research Sweden and the Swedish Association for Gender Research.
