Exploring Environmental Impact Assessments for Mining in the Swedish and Canadian Arctic
In this seminar, I will present a comparative analysis of Environmental Impact Assessments for the Mary River Project in Nunavut, Canada, and the Kallak (Gállok) Norra Project in Norrland, Sweden. Using thematic analysis, I examined differences in content and scope, which revealed critical gaps in how environmental, economic, social, cultural, and health impacts are identified and mitigated. The findings raise important questions about the role of EIAs as tools for sustainable development and the need to integrate Indigenous perspectives in assessments that help shape the future of Arctic regions.

She holds two master’s degrees from Umeå University: one in Environmental Sciences with a focus on Sustainable Development, and another in Gender, Justice, and Society. She has also worked as a teaching assistant at Umeå University.
