UAS: The War in Ukraine and Indigenous Peoples’ Rights in Russia

Ekaterina Zmyvalova, doctoral student at the Department of Language Studies, will discuss different impacts of the war in Ukraine on the situation with human rights of Indigenous peoples in Russia.

There are various challenges that Indigenous peoples are facing now. Among them, inter alia, increasing pressure on Indigenous peoples and decreasing international cooperation with Russian indigenous organizations.

Despite these challenges, there are some positive tendencies within some Indigenous communities. Among these tendencies is increased activity of some Indigenous groups.

Discussant: Luke Laframboise, doctoral student in Sami studies at the Department of Language Studies.
