Malaria kills almost half a million people each year, most of them are children. The disease is caused by parasites that grow inside red blood cells and are transmitted by mosquitoes. To fight malaria, we need to gain a deeper understanding of the parasite's biology. Oliver Billker and his research team has found novel ways of exploring and understanding the parasite's genome, which is necessary to develop new drugs and vaccines against malaria.
Oliver Billker will be installed as a professor of biotechnology focusing on molecular genetics at the Annual Celebration Ceremony on 20 October at 17:00 in Aula Nordica.
