Shadow libraries is an umbrella term encompassing the illicit digital archives and repositories of published materials (such as books and articles). Sci-Hub and Library Genesis counts as two of the largest, but what effect do they have on the knowledge economy, or research at large? Are they a reaction to an unfair oligopoly of the publishing market or simply a desperate means to an end? This breakfast we are discussing shadow libraries as a concept, its effect on library services, and academia at large.
