Lindellhallen, Social Sciences Building, Umeå University
On Thursday, December 6th, Lindellhallen at the university campus will turn into an idea fair – it is students from the course in Social and environmental entrepreneurship at Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics (USBE), who present their projects where they develop suggestions for products, services, and activities to solve local and global societal challenges.
The course is provided by USBE every year with a goal to discuss the role of entrepreneurship in solving local and global challenges and to provide the students with inspiration and tools to act. The result is solutions that can include circular business models, production of clothes from plastic that floats in the seas, a service that would increase biodiversity and green spaces in residential areas of Umeå, or new approaches to reduce social exclusion of children with the help of mentorship programs.
The fair and course are part of the ongoing work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals at Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics, which is conducted this autumn under the umbrella of #17goals17weeks campaign. The goal of USBE is to offer its students and employees a learning environment of high quality, which stimulates independent thinking and proactive attitudes to sustainable development questions, as well as to collaborate with others to spread the knowledge about sustainable development to the wider society.
