Umeå University’s academic ceremonies stem from Medieval European academic institutions. The Spring Graduation is one of two academic ceremonies and takes place over two days in May each year.
One part of the Spring Graduation is the Graduation Ceremony celebrating the University’s jubilee doctors, new doctors and scientific and pedagogical award recipients through rituals in Latin and with symbols of academic freedom. Anyone can attend the Graduation Ceremony.
The Graduation Ceremony starts at 16:00 with a procession of guests of honour into the auditorium. On stage, they receive their doctoral insignia or awards from a conferrer or the Vice-Chancellor. The ceremony takes about 1.5–2 hours. Read more if you are curious about the details of the Graduation Ceremony.
