Abstract: We consider the occurrence of self-similar behaviour for one-dimensional kinetic equations in the large-time limit. The approach relies on a perturbation argument from explicitly solvable models. A key tool is the precise analysis of a spectral gap of the linearised collision operator in self-similar variables which allows, in a first step, to prove the uniqueness of the self-similar profiles.
