The Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental archaeology invites you to a seminar with Veronica Palm, PhD student Södertörn University, archaeologist at Västerviks Museum. Seminar title: "SEASIDE - A multidisciplinary study of maritime environmental history - The archeaological landscape in Tjust".
Abstract: The SEASIDE projects aim is to investigate how the ecosystem has responded to changes in land-use, as well as the other way around; how humans adapted to changes in the configuration of the landscape, like for example shifting shorelines. Our intention is to apply an in-depth case study on carefully selected Baltic coastal sites and isolated lake sites at different altitudes to disentangle the long-term (6000 years) role of human impact and natural driven processes. Selected area for the case study is Gamlebyviken in the province of Småland, that are exceptionally rich regarding prehistoric remains from different periods. The project combines archaeology, geological analyses, paleoecological methods (pollen, charcoal and grain-size stratigraphies on sediment cores, diatom stratigraphies) and shore displacement analyses. The seminar focuses on the archaeological landscape and results so far.
The Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental Archaeology presents and discusses current research in archaeology and environmental archaeology. See more upcoming seminars in the series
